December brings many people's favorite time of year. Of course there is Christmas, but a close second to Christmas is the BRAWL. If you haven't heard of it before, it is a series of events during the winter throughout the Blue Ridge area; hence the BRAWL (Blue Ridge Area Winter League).
This year the league will be starting the first Saturday in December. Check out the below flyer for more info on the whens, wheres, and whats. 11th Annual Timber Ridge Open

The course is on a working cattle farm. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring extra towels. Ten club members showed up to fight for the Club Championship title on a wet and rainy day. Could Rene continue his reign or would up and coming star, Kyle Wilson, send Rene into retirement? After the first round, Rene found himself in the lead, but only by one over Kyle and Todd. Yep, you read that right... Todd Ashworth tied with Kyle one shot behind Rene. I had the pleasure of watching Todd's stellar round, it was a sight to see. Great round Todd!
Going into the 2nd and Final round Rene, Kyle, Todd, and Mike earned their spot on the lead card. Courtney, Stan, and Roy lurked in the shadows on the chase card in hopes to make their move on that top card. David, Cliff, and Steve found themselves on the last card but not trailing my much. All of the competitors continued their attack throughout the second round of soggy fun. When the damp dust settled, Rene held onto his "Champ" title with a win by 5 shots over second place finisher, Kyle Wilson. Mike Wilson and Courtney Biel shot solid rounds to finish 3rd and 4th respectively while Todd fell back to 5th. Check out the full results below. Although Stan and Cliff didn't find finish in the top five, they did win some CTP's. Stan won two CTP's (one each round) and Cliff won one in the first round. Rene picked up a CTP as well during the second round. Thank you to everyone that came out to play despite the rainy weather. I also want to thank Lee Houser for donating a bunch of discs and mini to use in a players pack that all participants received. Chris Faunce donated some SAW stamped merchandise for players to pick through and prizes for 1st place and last place. And the last shout out goes to Mike Wilson for providing lunch for everyone, Steve Blackmer for bringing drinks, and for Kyle Wilson's girlfriend that delivered the lunch. The 2016 SAW Disc Golf Club Championship is scheduled for this Saturday, October 8th. For those of you joining, please be there by 9:45AM so that we get organized and go over a couple things before starting the 1st round at 10AM. Following the first round, lunch from Subway is graciously being provided by Mike Wilson. The lunch break will be long enough for us to enjoy our food, hopefully we can hold it to 30ish minutes before heading out to the 2nd round. This event is free for all club members and only $10 for non-members. There will be several CTP prizes up for grabs along with the coveted "Champ" status that comes along with winning the event. Will the current champ, Rene DeVito, keep his reign? Or will he be dethroned by the mighty peasants. The below schedule is our best guess as to the timing of things. Hopefully the rounds take closer to 2 hours, but I show 2.5 hours for each on the schedule just in case. To help reduce the time, we will break up into groups of 3-4. Saturday Schedule:
Each round will have a different combination of mixed layouts. Here they are so that you can start preparing now! These are still subject to change but probably won't. Over the next two months, there are several tournaments to be aware of if you are interested in going.

Online registration at Disc Golf Scene PRO Registration: AM Registration: The The Rocktown Disc Golf Club put on an awesome tournament Saturday with $1400 added cash from sponsors. The tournament was 3 players shy of being full. The weather provided the competitors a beautiful warm sunny day to battle for a piece of "the rock." After the first round which was played to shorts, Courtney Biel found himself in the lead by 1 shot for the Advanced AM division. There were 10 players within 4 shots of the lead including Ned Gearing 2 shots back and Jonathan Britts 4 back of the lead. The rest of the 16 player division were close behind leaving everyone a chance for the win going into the final round especially since it was a longer layout. Courtney struggled at times during the 2nd round and carded numerous bogeys while only managing to get 3 birdies. Once all the scorecards were in and counted, Ned Gearing was crowned the Advanced AM champ leaving Courtney 4 shots behind in 6th place.
