Thursday: No one played the Sunday Tag League round (if so, no one reported it).
Due to availability of light in the evenings now, the Thursday Tag League rounds are done for the year. Sunday Tag League rounds at 1:30PM will continue until the Club Championship which has not been scheduled yet. People are being surveyed to determine a date and format (1 or 2 rounds). Thursday, Rene gave himself a challenge to make things more interesting. He played the Blue/Orange coarse while everyone else played the Red/Orange course. Stan shot a hot round but still wasn't enough to beat Rene. No one played Sunday afternoon, they were too afraid of melting in the heat.
Over the next two months, there are several tournaments to be aware of if you are interested in going.
August: 27-28 Spike Hyzer Blockhouse AM Event - Event Over September: 3-4 Spike Hyzer Blockhouse PRO Event - Event Over 17-18 Elk Creek Classic - Event Over 24 Loco Open - Event Over 25 Hawk Hollow AM - Event Over October: 1 Mountain Jam AM - Registration Open 2 Mountain Jam PRO - Registration Open 15 All Hyzer's Eve - Event Full / Join Waitlist 22-23 Hawk Hollow PRO - Registration Open Last week, no one played the official Tag League rounds Thursday or Sunday. Although some people played at MHP Thursday, the official scheduled round should have taken place at The Fox. There have been very few times this year that anyone has played The Fox on it's scheduled day. Next year we will need to reconsider the tag league schedule to try to better incorporate both courses.
Reliable(mostly) sources have reported that rain kept players away Sunday afternoon so therefore no tag league results to report. This Thursday, the scheduled tag round will be at MHP. Six club members showed up Sunday afternoon to take on each other in the heat. Cliff started off strong but then had a few tough holes; he fought back to tie Mike for 3rd. Roy was in his own world the whole round. His dog, Buddy, was spotted several times hiding his head possibly in disappointment and shame. Courtney started badly with a double bogey on the first hole, then lost a favorite disc on hole 2 (found after the round). He did battle back to try to give Kyle a run for 1st but Kyle proved to be deserving of the win and took the #2 tag home.
The River City Open was held at 'The Village' which is a private course located in Glen Allen, VA. Although Courtney struggled with his putting during the first round, he found himself on the lead card and 4 shots off the lead going into the second. He scored a strong 973 rated second round to win by 5 shots and earn his first PDGA Advanced AM win! Courtney hopes to carry this momentum into his next tournament in two weeks at the Blockhouse event.
Yesterday, while club member Jonathan Britts was watching recorded video coverage of Wednesday's 2nd round of Pro Worlds, he spotted a disc that appeared to have our club stamp. He messaged me and I confirmed that it is a club stamp that we used 3 years ago. Logan Bowers from Tennessee was the one spotted using the pictured disc which appears to be a metal flake champion firebird. Go SAW!!!
Last week, there was no reported action for Thursday or Sunday's tag rounds. Last night, 6 individuals battled it out and here are the results. Updated point standings can be found at the Point Standings page.
Since the Thursday location follows an Even/Odd schedule and not an alternating schedule, I wanted to send out a reminder that the official Thursday Tag League Round tomorrow will be held at The Fox. I know that there hasn't been much participation at Tags there but I also wanted to clarify any confusion that there might be. That said, I'll be out of town for a few days so I'll miss both Thursday and Sunday's tag league rounds. Shoot well!
